Prescribing Weight Loss Injections
Posted on:
National media has been reporting that weight loss injections can now be prescribed by your GP.
There are very strict eligibility criteria that we must follow, and only those who meet them can be referred on to the Healthy You service for assessment:
A BMI of 40kg/m2 or above (or 37.5 kg/m2 for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean ethnic backgrounds)
AND at least FOUR out of the following five diagnosed health conditions:
- Established Type 2 diabetes
- Hypertension requiring blood pressure lowering therapy
- Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
- Obstructive sleep apnoea where treatment is indicated i.e. continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
- Dyslipidaemia requiring treatment
If you do not have a BMI above 40 and four of the conditions above, your GP will not be able to refer you to the Healthy You service for assessment.
